Training hard on a regular basis carries a real risk of overload if technique, mobility and recovery aren’t managed properly. Here’s what you can do to prevent injuries before they happen.
Signs that something’s not right
- A niggle that keeps coming back in the same movement or joint, session after session.
- Pain that lingers for more than a couple of days after training, rather than normal muscle fatigue.
- A noticeable loss of mobility in a range of motion that used to be easy for you.
Prevention is better than cure
Most overload injuries can be avoided with good technique from the start (that’s why the coach corrects you in every class), a specific warm-up before loading weight, and not skipping mobility work even when you’re itching to get to the WOD.
The best physio session is the one you never need because the injury never happened.
When to see a physiotherapist
If a niggle keeps coming back or the pain doesn’t ease with normal rest, don’t wait for it to get worse: a physiotherapist who specialises in sport can pinpoint the real cause (not just treat the symptom) and give you specific work so you can get back to training without dragging the problem along. At Redfield T&F we offer physiotherapy and manual therapy for exactly that.
And if you don’t train with us yet, book your free class — starting with good technique from day one is the best prevention there is.
