FUNCTIONAL
TRAINING
Movements you use in real life (pushing, pulling, carrying, picking things up off the floor) trained with progressive load and good technique. The same exercises as CrossTraining, minus the technically demanding ones: no barbell Olympic lifts, no advanced gymnastics.
It's the way in at Redfield T&F: small groups, a coach in every class and everything scaled to your real level.

Functional vs. a conventional gym
The difference isn't the kit, it's how you train.
Conventional gym
- Guided machines, one muscle at a time
- You train alone, unsupervised
- A fixed routine you repeat for weeks
- Little work on whole-body movement patterns
Functional training here
- Free weights and your own body, full movement chains
- A coach correcting technique in every class
- A different session every day, guided progression
- Strength that carries over to sport and daily life
What a class looks like
One hour in three blocks. Everything (loads, reps and the variation of each exercise) is adapted to your ability, your injuries and where you're at right now:
- 1Warm-up. Mobility and activation to get your body ready.
- 2Strength. Basic patterns (squat, deadlift, push, pull) with guided progression. No barbell Olympic lifts or advanced gymnastics.
- 3Metcon. Around 20 minutes of cardio work at your own pace, then a final stretch.
What you get out of it
- Real strength in full movement patterns
- Better posture and fewer back niggles
- A base to move on to CrossTraining or hybrid
- The habit of training with a community
Frequently asked questions
How is it different from CrossTraining?
Functional training uses movement patterns with less technical complexity and less gymnastics. CrossTraining adds Olympic lifting and gymnastics at a higher intensity. Functional is the best way in.
Do I need experience or to be fit already?
No. Every movement is adapted to your real level and you start with a welcome class. Most of our members started with no experience at all.
Is it for me if I'm coming from a machine-based gym?
Yes. You'll notice strength you didn't have in full patterns (squats, deadlifts, presses) and better postural control, with the kind of supervision you don't get on the gym floor.
How many days a week?
Two or three days is enough to make clear progress. Plans range from 2 to 5 days; check our prices.
Where is the box?
Carrer de l'Acer, 22, 08038 Barcelona (Marina del Prat Vermell / Zona Franca), next to the L9S/L10S Fira metro stops, with parking right outside.
